Sheet Metal Worker
I like variety and developing and using a range of skills in my work.
Sheet metal workers design, create, assemble, install and repair sheet metal products, including heating, venting and air conditioning systems, pollution control systems and other metal structures. They work indoors and outdoors, on construction sites and in shops.
You are detail oriented.
You have good spatial awareness.
You like working with your hands and with machines.



Responsibilities
- Build and install products such as eavestroughs, air and heat ducts, roof decking and sheet metal buildings
- Lay out, measure and mark sheet metal
- Work with computerized equipment to cut, bend or straighten sheet metal
- Fasten metal seams and use welding equipment to join sheets of metal
- Polish seams, joints and rough surfaces
- Read and interpret sketches and work specifications

Entrance Requirements
Apprenticeship Program:
Although certification is voluntary in Manitoba, it is highly recommended. To be certified as a sheet metal worker, you must complete a four-year apprenticeship program. Once you successfully complete the required on-the-job training, technical training and exams, you are awarded a journeyperson certificate.
