Sprinkler Fitter

Sprinkler fitters build, install, inspect, maintain and repair sprinkler systems on industrial, commercial and residential sites. They can be self-employed or work with construction firms, plumbing contractors, heating and air conditioning companies, building developers or sprinkler system contractors.
You have plumbing knowledge.
You have strength and stamina.
You are comfortable working at heights.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret work specifications and fire codes
- Inspect, maintain and repair piping, fixtures and controls including hydrant, pump and sprinkler head connections
- Install valves, alarms and associated equipment
- Connect piping systems to water mains, supply tanks, pumps, compressors and control equipment
- Test systems for leaks using air or liquid pressure equipment
- Service and repair sprinkler systems
- May prepare cost estimates for clients

Entrance Requirements
Usually a combination of 5+ years of construction experience, plus high school, college or industry courses in plumbing to be eligible for certification.
Apprenticeship Program:
Includes technical training, on-the-job training and exam. Journeyperson certificate awarded after successful completion. As an apprentice, you also earn while you learn.
